Oronto Douglas an illustrious son of the Ijaw Nation passes On!

Albert Pike was very correct when he said, ‘What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal’.

Oronto gave intellectual input to the Niger Delta struggle for Resource Ownership and Control. He was an asset to the Niger Delta.

His service to Bayelsa as Commissioner for information and Strategy brought direction and and discipline to information management and dissemination in Bayelsa State.

In the last six years, Oronto Douglas as Special Adviser to the President on Strategy and Documentation documented himself in to Nigerian history through his many contribution to President Jonathan’s speeches, especially; ‘I had no shoes’.

I remember his last text to me ‘Steve let us know that the unity of Nigeria must and should never be compromised’.

I am saddened by this great and irreparable loss.

To the family let me remind you that Oronto gave his best to his people and Country.

This I say to you is a beautiful legacy worthy of emulation.
